YOUNG ENGINEER OF THE YEAR.

________________________

Unilathe in strengthening its drive to further improve and expand its current apprenticeship programme within the company, has now agreed details to sponsor Alsager High School, near Crewe, through the ‘KMF Young Engineer of The Year’ scheme.   This scheme is designed to attract more budding engineers into the industry, by opening up and stimulating student minds to the world of engineering and hopefully, in time, to encourage them into joining Unilathe, as well as the many other engineering companies such as ours, when they are ready to leave school.

This new initiative in association with the National Apprenticeship Service, EAL and SEMTA., will initially be run on a local basis, which will also set the scene for us to begin developing stronger and more effective links, between all the local schools and ourselves as an industry; activities that are similarly supported by the Chamber of Commerce.

Eddie Sims - Chairman said    Apprenticeships have long been neglected in our industry, and this scheme will act as another foundation stone in both attracting young people back into engineering, as well as helping them gain first hand, experience of the wide range of choices open to them, across a global market that will give the opportunities. to develop an exciting career path well into the future.”

Unilathe – Extending its Tracks in Rail

UNILATHE was formed just over 30 years ago, machining small metal components for the general engineering industry, who today has forged a proven track record in the sub-contract machining, fabrication, sub-assembly and finishing of medium to heavy metal and exotic alloy products, for such environmentally sensitive and safety critical markets as off-shore oil & gas, aerospace and global mining.

Throughout this time, Unilathe has also been building up a presence in the rail industry, where today, through the introduction of an increased range of machining capabilities, sub-assembly, finishing, testing and certification services, including a wider choice of cast, forged and machined products, Unilathe continues to grow its expertise and supply chain capabilities, from high speed rail, passenger, underground and surface rail transport networks, to those of the freight and heritage line operators.

Eddie Sims – Chairman said “The rail industry is changing, new technologies being introduced, as well as new coach designs, drive and braking systems, so we have also responded by investing in new machinery, skill sets and products.”

Unilathe have a long and well established reputation within the UK & European ‘UIC and BR Grades’ Rail Parts Industry, such that it can not only source all original raw materials, associated castings and forgings, including 3rd party products, but also fully machine, weld, fabricate and test all component parts, including their subsequent painting, finishing, sub-assembly and ‘Kitting’, all to a customer’s own requirements.
